FAQ's

This is up to you. Ask what style you like, are you after something light an airy, or more dynamic and serious? Perhaps you like deep shadows, or beautifully balanced lighting. Check out photographer’s portfolios, what you see is the way they shoot. Is there a similar style throughout their work? These are all about personal taste and what you need these shots for. I aim to provide high quality headshot and portrait photographs that will give you the tools you need to grow your business or profile.

There are some overlaps between the two genres of photographs. In the simplest terms, a headshot is a professionally taken portrait that focuses specifically on the face and shoulders. I shoot these in both the British (portrait orientation) and American (landscape orientation) styles.
In today’s connected world, a modern headshot comes in useful for anyone looking to market themselves professionally (or personally — don’t forget about online dating profiles).

My headshot and portrait sessions are all different but please leave at least 2-3 hours, this gives us enough time to get some amazing shots. We need that amount of time because I need to guide you through your best posing techniques. Before booking please see my price guide page, my prices start from £225 for one person, this includes your favourite 5 images. I charge £25 per extra image.

At the moment most shoots are on location, in your home or place of work.

Don’t worry I can photograph sessions tethered to a laptop allowing you to view your headshots as they are being taken. I try to collaborate with you every step of the way from posing, expressions and help you design the best looks to guarantee your satisfaction. You will know what you are getting before we’ve finished, and you should love it.

I will process and retouch your final selected headshots and send them to you via Wetransfer downloadable files. If you have opted to receive a proofing gallery, I will send you an email with a link to your online gallery. Once you have selected your images, the files will be retouched and your final headshots will be sent to you in a downloadable link.

I use a combination of Photoshop and Lightroom. I do light skin retouching and tidying up, just enough to make you look your best, but not unrealistically smooth (this is a headshot or portrait not a fashion or beauty image). I then do a colour balance adjustment and some small tweaks to the eyes to make them pop, and some general edits. Please check out my portfolio to get a sense of how I edit. If you require something more artistic, or are after a specific look, please ask and we can discuss this. If you just want a B&W version of your shots as well, then let me know and I’ll throw them in at no extra charge.

You only get the retouched images that you have selected and paid for. You’ll receive both high and low resolution versions of your final retouched digital files for both web and print use, but you will not get to keep all the other unselected images from your shoot without pre-shoot permission first. Editing is such an integral part of image making that I won’t let a photo go out in the world without an edit – my reputation is on the line.

I shoot on the the latest Canon R5 mirrorless camera. This is an amazing camera not only for a single person but also large groups without losing quality. For lighting I use Bowens Studio flash lights with various modifiers.

Yes! All headshot work is satisfaction guaranteed. Because most clients see their headshots before the session has finished, it is rare that a client is unhappy with their headshot. But if you are unhappy with your headshots in any way, please talk to me about a possible reshoot or reworking of the retouched file. If you do not like your photos because you do not like your hair, makeup, or clothing, that is not really my fault, but please do still talk to me so a resolution can be determined.
