Photo SESSION TIPS FOR MEN
THE EXPERIENCE REVEALED
The experience revealed
When it comes to your upcoming business or actor headshot photo session, there are a number of ways you can prepare in advance to make sure you have the most successful and positive photo experience. Every shoot is different, so what you’ll need to prepare might change based on your unique photography needs, but overall, these are my top headshot photo session tips for men to ensure you look and feel your best during your photo session.
MAIN TIP…..“Simple is better”

Wear what you think looks best on you and bring two alternate choices. Contrary to popular belief there are no absolutes when selecting clothing for headshots and portraits. If you feel good in what you are wearing your confidence will come through.
Things to think about:
In general, neutral solids are better than patterns.
Fitted and tailored clothing works best. Loose or baggy tops could make you look larger than you desire.
Try your top(s) in front of bright mirror to check for size & fit. Studio lights may shine through thin fabrics.
If it helps show your clothes to a partner or friend for advice.
Long sleeves often work better than short sleeves unless you are particularly proud of your arms or tattoos.
If you have long dark hair, your hair may blend into darker clothing, so consider wearing a lighter coloured top.
As we age, lighter colour shirts may be more flattering and fresh.
Darker colours close to face, could draw attention to wrinkles but gernaly this isn’t such a problem for men.
White or Off-White can work nicely unless you feel it washes you out.
Make sure your jacket buttons close or it might make you will look larger than desired even if we don’t button the jacket.
Things to try and avoid:
Busy patterns or stripes.
It might sound obvious but shiny fabrics aren’t great.
Jackets that are to small & don’t not button!
Pastels-the light colour washes out in studio lighting.
No jewellery for actor headshots.
Hair
If you are having a model shoot you might consider hiring a professional to do your hair but I think most men know how to style their own hair.
Whether or not you work with a stylist (Model shoot), make sure you wear your hair in a way that you think looks most like you!
Most cuts look better after a week or so.
